European University Alliances are joining forces in Bucharest this week — and UNITA is contributing to this timely conversation! The UNITA – Universitas Montium European University Alliance is present at CIVIS Days 2026, hosted by the University of Bucharest, where it is represented by the West University of Timișoara.
A highlight of the opening day at the Romanian Athenaeum is the round table “European University Alliances as a New Academic Diplomacy – Pathway for Europeanisation,” where Professor Irina Macsinga, Vice-Rector of the West University of Timișoara and member of the UNITA Alliance Governance, is joining a distinguished panel of European higher education leaders, including representatives of the European Commission, the CIVIS Alliance, the ERASMUS+ National Agency in Romania, and the Magna Carta Observatory. The discussion will explore the growing role of European University Alliances as drivers of Europeanisation and inter-institutional dialogue.

UNITA is also taking part in the Alliances Poster Session with a best practices poster showcasing three of its flagship achievements: scientific community building through matching events and seed funding (over 900 participants and 100+ funded teams), the UNITA Rural Mobility connecting students with local communities across Europe (270 mobilities completed since 2021), and its democratic, transferable model for student governance, including alliance-wide e-voting and formal voting rights for students.
UNITA’s participation at CIVIS Days reflects the strong spirit of inter-alliance cooperation that is shaping the future of the European Higher Education Area in general, and a strong connection between the UNITA and CIVIS alliances in particular.
