“Brașov@Acasă” on Europe Day: reflections on migration and European identity
Celebrated every year on 9 May, Europe Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the values that underpin the European project: diversity, solidarity and belonging. In this context, on 7 May 2026, the Faculty of Sociology and Communication organised an event at the Casa Mureșenilor Museum in Brașov dedicated to exploring migration as a factor in the formation of European identity, through a visit to the temporary exhibition “Brașov@Acasă”.
The museum setting provided the ideal context for more than 100 students from the Sociology, Human Resources, Social Work and Digital Media study programmes to reflect on the way in which migration contributes to shaping individual and collective identities in contemporary Europe, as well as on the importance of intercultural dialogue in building a shared sense of belonging.
This experience was guided by Cristina Seitz, curator of the exhibition, together with Maria Popa and Ibrahim Osewe, representatives of the International Organization for Migration, a partner in the exhibition project. Through the stories presented, participants discovered authentic and moving life experiences of people who have come to call Brașov “home”. At the same time, the interactive component, built around the question “What does home mean to you?”, turned the visit into a participatory and personal experience.
Included in the calendar of events organised by the member universities of the UNITA alliance within the “European Identity and Citizenship” working group, the event highlighted the fact that Europe is not only about institutions or borders, but also about people, stories and shared values.
