UNITA European Label for study programmes: Celebrating Excellence in Double Degree Programmes at UNITA Week in Guarda

During UNITA Week, held in Guarda from March 10 to 12, 2026, the UNITA Alliance officially celebrated a major milestone: the presentation of the first double degree programmes awarded the UNITA Label.
The ceremony brought together representatives from across the Alliance and was marked by a symbolic multilingual speech delivered in all UNITA languages; Italian, French, Spanish, Romanian, and Portuguese. This moment powerfully reflected the Alliance’s commitment to linguistic diversity, cultural richness, and European cooperation.

The Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Argentina) is a public state university, founded in 1939 and located in the province of Mendoza. The University M’Hamed Bougara of Boumerdes is a public university located in the Mediterranean city of Boumerdès, in northern Algeria. The institution was officially established in 1998 by Executive Decree No. 98-189, bringing together several national institutes which, since the 1960s, had developed a strong scientific tradition in strategic fields for the country, including engineering, industrial technologies and the energy sector. This academic heritage has helped shape a university characterised by a strong technical and scientific identity and by a significant role in the development of higher education and research in Algeria.
Polytechnic Institute of Guarda hosted UNITA Week and strengthened European academic cooperation

From 10 to 12 March 2026, the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda hosted UNITA Week, bringing together representatives from the 12 universities that form the European alliance UNITA – Universitas Montium. Over three days, academic teams, project managers and institutional leaders took part in strategic meetings focused on governance, education, research and territorial development within the alliance. Discussions highlighted key advances in academic integration, including the development of the UNITA Graduate School to support joint doctoral programmes, as well as new joint and double degree initiatives and lifelong learning opportunities such as micro-credentials and the UNITA à la carte programme. The meeting also addressed the future institutional evolution of European university alliances, including the possible development of a confederation model.
As Joaquim Brigas, President of the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, stated, “The debate within the governance board and the work carried out by the technical commissions in Guarda contributed to strengthening the alliance between the participating universities

UNITA Partners Strengthen Internationalisation in Higher Education Through Expert Workshop and Training Sessions within RECIPES Project Staff Week

In a vibrant effort to advance internationalisation in higher education, partners of the UNITA RECIPES for Internationalisation project convened in Brasov – Romania, from 24 to 26 of February, for an intensive session of workshops and presentations designed to deepen understanding, share best practices, and build capacity for curriculum internationalisation within Recipes and UNITA universities, and across Europe. The event brought together participants from 7 universities – teachers, heads of programs, counsellors in internationalisation, staff involved in internationalisation- all aimed at increasing the level of internationalisation of their study degree program, faculty or university.

EUA Webinar Highlights New Evaluation Approach for European Universities Alliances

The European University Association (EUA) recently hosted the high level event “Evaluating European Universities Alliances with EUA’s Institutional Evaluation Programme: Supporting Strategic Leadership and Change”, bringing together university leaders, alliance coordinators, and policy experts to reflect on the expanding scope of the EUA’s Institutional Evaluation Programme (EUA-IEP) in supporting the evaluation of European Universities alliances. Building on 30 years of experience as an independent, improvement oriented quality assurance programme, EUA IEP is now extending its methodology to address the unique challenges and opportunities of multi institutional alliances. The new model introduces peer reviewed evaluations designed to strengthen alliances’ strategic leadership, change management capacity, and internal quality culture.
Event dedicated to UNITA Starting Grants at Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara

On February 17, 2026, the West University of Timișoara hosted a dedicated event highlighting the opportunities offered by the UNITA Alliance’s Starting Grants. The meeting showcased new directions for research and collaboration, presenting projects developed in strategic fields such as cultural heritage, green energy, circular economy, environment, digital transition, social inclusion, and global health. Bringing together researchers and partners, the event fostered academic dialogue, exchange of ideas, and the strengthening of international partnerships, reaffirming UVT’s commitment to collaborative research and sustainable development within the UNITA network. Together, we build projects with European impact.
