UNITA Advanced Grants on research: Results of the Call
The UNITA Alliance has selected 27 projects from the 51 proposals submitted to its Advanced Grants for Research call. Covering UNITA’s six thematic areas, the funded projects will strengthen collaboration between partner universities, consolidate partnerships established through previous Starting Grants and support the development of larger-scale research initiatives with the potential to compete for international funding.
UNITA advances a common model for university service redesign
Representatives from across the UNITA Alliance came together at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA) for a three-day workshop aimed at turning shared reflection into practical proposals for improving university services. Participants assessed their institutions’ readiness for change, developed plans for institutional service redesign laboratories and identified initial challenges, laying the foundations for a common UNITA model.
UNITA, among the 14 alliances shaping the future European Degree
The ED-UNITA project has been selected for funding under the Erasmus+ European Degree Exploratory Action call. Bringing together UNITA partner universities and associated partners, the project will receive €1 million over the next three years to develop two new Joint Degrees and transform four existing UNITA double degrees into European Degrees, contributing to the future of integrated European higher education.
Learning Italian through Intercomprehension: UNITA staff and teachers meet in Turin
From 6 to 10 July 2026, the University of Turin hosted the UNITA Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Italian Language for Staff and Teachers”. The programme combined innovative language teaching, intercomprehension among Romance languages and cultural activities, enabling participants from across the UNITA Alliance to strengthen their Italian language skills while fostering multilingualism, intercultural dialogue and a stronger sense of belonging to the Alliance.

Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is a public university offering 171 undergraduate degree programmes and 136 postgraduate programmes to a student population of approximately 51,000. Its community comprises around 80,000 people, distributed across four campuses located throughout the State of Rio de Janeiro.
WP4 members gather in Brescia to advance UNITA’s research and innovation activities
On 2 and 3 July, the Università degli Studi di Brescia hosted the meeting of the UNITA WP4 representatives. WP4, the Work Package dedicated to Research and Innovation, aims to foster the development of the rural, mountain, peripheral and cross-border territories where the Alliance’s partner universities operate through education and research activities based on real territorial challenges (challenge-based education) and valorizing romance languages.

Intercomprehension in action: UNITA BIP brings multilingual learning to rural territories

The UNITA Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Intercomprehension for specific purposes: tourism in rural areas” brought together students from across the Alliance to explore how linguistic diversity can foster communication, cooperation, and innovation in multilingual European territories.

UNITA is proud to announce the winners of the My 3-Minute PhD Thesis 2026 Final, which brought together 20 PhD candidates from 10 universities across the Alliance. Participants took on the challenge of presenting their research projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
