When research meets diplomacy: discover the new UniTo talks podcast

Science Diplomacy – UniTo Talks is the new podcast series promoted by the University of Turin to explore how research contributes to addressing global challenges through international cooperation. Building on the success of the Science Diplomacy seminar series developed in collaboration with UNITA and MSOI Torino, the podcast brings expert discussions beyond the classroom, making science diplomacy accessible to a wider audience.

Following the success of the seminar series on Science Diplomacy, the University of Turin is expanding the conversation on one of the most strategic areas of international cooperation with a new outreach initiative: Science Diplomacy – UniTo Talks, a podcast series produced by the editorial team of Otto, the University of Turin’s online magazine, in collaboration with the Student Movement for International Organizations (MSOI) Turin.

The initiative represents a new milestone in the activities of the UniTo Hub on Science Diplomacy, established to promote the role of scientific research as a driver of dialogue, international cooperation, and peacebuilding. The podcast builds on the seminar series “Science Diplomacy and the Changing International Order”, previously featured on our website, organised by the UniTo Hub on Science Diplomacy together with the Ferdinando Rossi School of Advanced Studies, in collaboration with the CSF Foundation, MSOI Turin, and the European University Alliance UNITA, a strategic partner of the initiative.

Science Diplomacy – UniTo Talks is the new podcast series promoted by the University of Turin

In recent years, science diplomacy has become one of the University of Turin’s key strategic priorities, reinforcing its commitment at the international level through its membership in the European Science Diplomacy Alliance. In this context, the podcast represents a natural extension of the activities developed by the Science Diplomacy Hub and reflects the University’s commitment to fostering an increasingly open dialogue between research, institutions, and society.

The first season features interviews with the speakers from the seminar series, offering a multidisciplinary perspective on the relationship between science, politics, and international cooperation.

The first four episodes explore highly topical issues: the role of critical raw materials in the energy transition and European policymaking with Gian Andrea Blengini; the contribution of universities to the development of international law and the protection of fundamental rights with Andrea Spagnolo; the relationship between knowledge production, conflict, and geopolitics in the SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region with Rosita Di Peri; and finally, the evolution of science diplomacy in Asia, examined by Marzia Casolari through some of the most significant examples of international scientific cooperation.
