Our Geminae partners: University M’Hamed Bougara of Boumerdes (Algeria)

The University M’Hamed Bougara of Boumerdes is a public university located in the Mediterranean city of Boumerdès, in northern Algeria. The institution was officially established in 1998 by Executive Decree No. 98-189, bringing together several national institutes which, since the 1960s, had developed a strong scientific tradition in strategic fields for the country, including engineering, industrial technologies and the energy sector. This academic heritage has helped shape a university characterised by a strong technical and scientific identity and by a significant role in the development of higher education and research in Algeria.

Over the years, the university has evolved into a multidisciplinary academic centre structured around several faculties and institutes covering a wide range of disciplines, including science and technology, hydrocarbons and chemistry, economics and management sciences, law and political science, as well as programmes dedicated to natural sciences, languages and other fields within the social sciences. A distinctive feature of the university is its research environment, supported by a large academic community of students, faculty members and researchers and by a scientific infrastructure that includes more than twenty-five research laboratories and specialised units recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Located along the Mediterranean coast, the city of Boumerdès provides a favourable setting for academic and scientific development. Within this context, the university plays an important role in linking education, research and innovation with regional development dynamics, while strengthening its presence within regional and international academic networks.

Within the framework of international academic cooperation initiatives, the University M’Hamed Bougara of Boumerdes participates in programmes and partnerships that promote knowledge exchange, the mobility of students and researchers, and the development of joint scientific projects, contributing to the creation of an increasingly open and interconnected academic space.

The University M’Hamed Bougara of Boumerdes is part of the Geminae network of the UNITA Alliance. The programme aims to strengthen international academic cooperation in all continents through the exchange of best practices in teaching, research, mobility and governance, contributing to the development of more inclusive, sustainable and globally connected higher education systems.
