On the 16th and 17th of September<\/strong>, the University of Turin<\/strong> hosted the second stage of the initiative \u201cTowards an International and Plurilingual University: From Intercomprehension to English-Medium Instruction (EMI)\u201d<\/strong>. The event was organised by the University Language Centre (CLA-UniTo)<\/strong> with the active involvement of the University Language Centre of Brescia (CLA \u2013 UniBs)<\/strong>. Supported by AICLU (Italian ASssociation of University Language Centres)<\/strong>, CEL\/ELC (European Language Council)<\/strong>, and in collaboration with LinE (Language in Education)<\/strong>, the Torino meeting<\/strong> brought together Language Centres from UNITA partner universities<\/strong> as well as other Italian Institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This two-day convention<\/strong> followed the inaugural meeting held in Brescia in May<\/strong><\/a>, aiming to build on that initial momentum. It further reinforced inter-university dialogue and cooperation<\/strong> within and beyond the UNITA alliance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first day<\/strong> opened with a plenary session<\/strong>, which explored the evolution of UNITA<\/strong> over recent years and concluded with a workshop on the principles and strategies of Intercomprehension<\/strong>, coordinated by the UNITA Task team 2.2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second day<\/strong> focused entirely on English-Medium Instruction (EMI)<\/strong> \u2013 the use of English to teach academic subjects in contexts where English is not the majority\u2019s first language. In the morning, the LinE Centre<\/strong> coordinated a panel discussion<\/strong> addressing EMI language policies<\/strong> and teacher support<\/strong> at Italian universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immediately afterwards, the Matching Event for Language Centres<\/strong> took place, serving as a pivotal moment of the event. This interactive session<\/strong> provided participants with the opportunity to exchange good practices<\/strong>, discuss challenges<\/strong>, and identify common priorities<\/strong>. The discussions highlighted the importance of developing digital tools<\/strong>, offering continuous training for EMI lecturers<\/strong>, and establishing stronger inter-university support networks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
