UNITA aims at encouraging the internationalization and personalisation of study paths within the Universities of the Alliance.
UNITA common learning paths include a wide variety of shared, personalised, multilingual, inclusive and dynamic activities, focussed on the model of “UNITA à la carte”, the mobility window and joint study programmes.
UNITA partners commit at all levels to support the internationalisation of curricula. Vicerectors for Educations are involved in the strategic planning and in continuous input to the dedicated task teams in order to facilitate the implementation of innovative practices into the local frameworks. Dedicated working groups develop common frameworks for joint diplomas and international learning paths, which are then adopted and implemented by the teaching staff involved in the different internationalisation projects.
As central action within this framework, the UNITA Label certifies internationalized degrees or international learning activities, in line with the criteria pointed out in the pilot call on the European degree (label), also complying with the national regulations.
UNITA À LA CARTE (UàC)
UNITA à la Carte (UàC) is an innovative initiative within the UNITA Alliance that allows students to customize their learning paths by integrating UNITA learning activities into their degree programs. This model enhances academic flexibility, enabling students to participate in multilingual, interdisciplinary, and international courses.
Scope
UNITA à la carte aims to create dedicated sets of UNITA learning activities to be embedded in the curricula of the UNITA Universities degree programmes. These activities are designed to implement personalized, multilingual, and international learning paths.
UàC ensures that all activities are:
- Recognized with ECTS credits across UNITA universities
- Transparent, with clear application and evaluation processes
The models for UNITA à la Carte
“One4all” Model
The One4all model provides a curated selection of elective activities that can be integrated into degree programs across UNITA universities. This approach enables students to explore interdisciplinary topics while ensuring flexibility in academic planning.
Each university can select activities relevant to its programs, embedding shared UNITA courses like European Citizenship or Intercomprehension, alongside specialized subjects tailored to specific disciplines.
These activities may include:
- Virtual Mobility courses from the UNITA course catalog
- Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) for international collaboration
- Intercomprehension and language courses to foster multilingualism
- Thematic courses aligned with UNITA research priorities
“Stand Alone” model
This model foresees the creation of sets of activities in specific scientific fields that can be tailored for each considered study programme, including specific subject activities offered by UNITA partner Universities.
Pilot Projects and Future Expansion
The first UàC pilot project will focus on the Business Studies program, involving USMB, UNIZAR, UPNA, UPPA, and UniTBv. Additional pilots will be launched in other fields to expand the model across disciplines.

MOBILITY WINDOW
The UNITA Mobility Window action aims at creating a set of previously agreed courses to be inserted in the Learning Agreement by UNITA students doing Erasmus in one of the UNITA universities. This initiative seeks to streamline the process for students participating in the Erasmus program by ensuring that they can easily select courses from partner institutions without facing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
Objective
The primary goal of this action is to assist students in completing their Learning Agreement in a smooth and efficient manner, thus preventing the loss of selected candidates who may encounter difficulties in filling it out. By establishing a clear pathway for course selection, the initiative seeks to enhance the mobility experience and ensure that students can focus on their studies rather than logistical challenges.
Another key objective is identifying correspondences between degree programs offered by different UNITA universities. This involves exploring potential matches for future double, joint, or UNITA degree programs, opening up new opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration and academic growth. Furthermore, the UNITA Mobility Window action will also examine UàC activities, contributing to the broader goal of fostering student engagement across multiple academic platforms.
Moreover, the initiative considers the Mobility Window as a criterion for awarding the UNITA Label to corresponding degree programs. This label serves as a mark of excellence, recognizing the alignment and cooperation between institutions, as well as the seamless integration of their educational offerings. By doing so, the action supports the continuous improvement of the UNITA network, ensuring that students benefit from a well-coordinated and enriching international academic experience.
UNITA European Label for study programmes
The UNITA Label is a mark of distinction awarded to degree programs, learning activities, and micro-credentials within the UNITA – Universitas Montium Alliance. It recognizes high-quality transnational education and learning experiences driven by European values, such as multilingualism, inclusiveness, and sustainability.
What is the UNITA Label?
The UNITA Label certifies that a program or learning activity meets specific European and transnational criteria, ensuring:
- Joint international curriculum development across multiple partner universities
- Student-centered and interdisciplinary learning experiences
- Integrated and flexible mobility opportunities
- Alignment with the scientific priorities of UNITA Hubs
- Connection with local and European labor market need

The label enhances the visibility and value of UNITA-certified programs by:

The UNITA Degree Label awarding process
The UNITA Degree Label awarding process takes place over the period 2025-2027 and is structured into four phases:
1 – Identification of potentially eligible programmes.
The first phase is dedicated to the identification of double and joint programmes existing between the universities of UNITA and potentially eligible for the UNITA Degree Label. This phase constitutes a comprehensive review, aimed at identifying all existing programmes that meet the basic requirements to apply for the UNITA label.
2 – Application
The eligible programmes are invited to apply through a structured self-assessment form, to be completed by the academic coordinators of the respective programmes.
The self-assessment process is carried out with the support of the relevant UNITA structures and enables programmes to verify their alignment with the criteria established at Alliance level.
3 – Evaluation by the Awarding Committee
The evaluation phase is carried out by an Awarding Committee composed of representatives from the countries of the UNITA Alliance with expertise in higher education, quality assurance, and internationalisation.
The Committee operates in accordance with principles of impartiality and transparency and is responsible for verifying the compliance of the candidate programmes with the criteria established for the UNITA Degree Label.
The UNITA Degree Label is awarded to programmes that meet the minimum number of criteria
defined by the process, in line with the decisions taken by the competent governance bodies.
4 – Communication of the results
At the end of the evaluation procedure, the results are formally communicated to the programme coordinators and the relevant academic authorities. The selected programmes are awarded the UNITA Degree Label, which is made visible through the Alliance’s institutional communication channels.
UNITA Degree
The UNITA Degree action focuses on identifying in the academic offer of the UNITA Universities existing degree programs or designing new ones that meet the requirements of the UNITA Label. These joint programs will be implemented as part of the larger strategy to enhance academic cooperation within the UNITA network and to develop a common UNITA framework for diplomas.
The UNITA Degree action is divided into two steps:
- Creating a shared UNITA template for double/multiple and joint degrees to facilitate cooperation among UNITA universities.
- Designing the UNITA degree model, based on the European Degree principles.
The UNITA Degree model will incorporate specific criteria as outlined in the UNITA Label. The model will also include the “UNITA flavour,” allowing the integration of UNITA activities such as BIPs, Virtual Mobility courses, and flagship courses, like the UNITA course on EU citizenship.
As the criteria for awarding the UNITA label are finalized, they will be incorporated into the degree model to ensure consistency and quality across programs.
Matching Events Education
As part of the UNITA Alliance, the Universities of Turin and Savoie Mont Blanc have developed a new model to promote and facilitate the internationalization processes of teaching among member universities.
The model, based on periodic and recurring matching events titled “Internationalization of Curricula Through UNITA (ICTU)”, is based on face-to-face meetings of faculty coordinators of curricula in the Alliance Universities who, grouped by scientific field into working groups, engage in co-design of international curricula, with the support of the administrative staff of all the Universities involved.
The ICTU model foresees the following steps:
1. “Internationalization of curricula through UNITA” event: working groups are invited to one of the Alliance Universities where they have the opportunity to meet in separate tables and design international study paths together: Erasmus BIP, virtual mobility, COIL, teacher mobility, double degrees or joint degrees (activity target period: between Spring and early Summer).
2. Follow-up event: working groups that, following the first event, continue to maintain contact at a distance and continue to make progress in planning the internationalization project are invited for an in-person follow-up event at the UNITA University that hosted the first event. The working groups have the opportunity to meet again to finalize the planning and decide on a project start-up date (activity reporting period: Fall)
3. Activity monitoring and administrative support: at the end of the two events and in between, working groups are invited to respond to online surveys aimed at collecting data on the type of internationalization project being discussed and any administrative and logistical concerns or issues.
Each year one university in the UNITA Alliance hosts the two “Internationalization of curricula through UNITA” events and manages the macro-phases of the ICTU model.
