UNITA GEIE

Universitas Montium European Economic Interest Grouping  (UNITA GEIE) is an innovative institutional tool created to enhance transnational academic collaboration in Europe.

Established in January 2023 by the six universities of the pilot phase of the UNITA alliance University of Turin, University of Savoie-Mont Blanc, University of Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, University of Zaragoza, University of Beira Interior, and University of Vest din Timișoara —, UNITA GEIE includes today also the Transilvania University of Brasov, the Public University of Navarra and, as an associate partner, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland: it represents the first initiative of its kind in Europe.

By fostering cross-border collaboration, UNITA GEIE strengthens institutional ties and drives regional development within a European framework.

Objectives and Strategic Vision

Providing common services to member Universities in the development and implementation of the Alliance’s objectives in the fields of education, research, innovation and organisation.Improving UNITA organization and management governance, visibility and stability, for long-term sustainability.Supporting project and post-project activities and their financing:

  • autonomous management of funds,
  • participation to EU or national competitive procedures,
  • establishment of employment and supply contracts,
  • establishment of partnerships with companies, public institutions and no-profit entities.

By emphasizing European values and regional specificities, UNITA GEIE increases the international visibility and attractiveness of the UNITA alliance. Its strong integration within local, regional, cross-border, and European realities ensures a robust academic and research ecosystem that contributes to the long-term development of its member institutions and associated territories.

UNITA’s Digital transitions Hub is one of the six hubs. Each hub is led by a ‘Task Force’, constituted by researchers representing the member universities.

This task force is animated and coordinated by two universities: Prof. Antonio LOPEZ (UPNA) and Prof. Alexandre Miguel Pereira FIGUEIREDO (IPG) are the contact points.

UNITA’s Cultural Heritage Hub is one of the three hubs, together with Circular Economy and Renewable Energies, each one of them corresponding to one of the three Axes in which research activities in UNITA universities have been divided.

Each hub is led by a ‘Task Force’, constituted by researchers representing the member universities.

This task force is animated and coordinated by two universities, Prof. Laurence Roussillon-Constanty (UPPA) and Prof. Giaime Alonge (UNITO) are the contact points.

Within the research cartography, more than 300+ Cultural Heritage projects can be found, grouped into the following themes and sub-themes:

· Study and preservation of tangible Cultural Heritage
· Intangible Cultural Heritage and identity narratives
· Enhancement and dissemination of cultural and natural heritage
· Innovation policies for the development of marginalised areas

UNITA’s Circular economy and environment hub is one of the six hubs, each one of them corresponding to one of the three Axes in which research activities in UNITA universities have been divided.

Each hub is led by a ‘Task Force’, constituted by researchers representing the member universities.

This task force is animated and coordinated by two universities, Prof. Stefania DIMA (UVT) and Prof. José Maria FRAILE (UNIZAR) are the contact points.

Within the research cartography, more than 200+ Circular Economy projects can be found, grouped into the following themes and sub-themes:
