Founded in 1975, Hassan II University of Casablanca (UH2C) is a major public higher education institution in Morocco. In September 2014, the university underwent a significant institutional transformation through the merger of Hassan II University of Casablanca and Hassan II University of Mohammedia.
This consolidation strengthened its academic presence and expanded its institutional structure, establishing UH2C as one of Morocco’s largest universities in terms of student enrolment and institutional scope.
Today, UH2C comprises 18 departments distributed across several campuses in Casablanca and Mohammedia, serving approximately 143,000 students. Its mission is centred on three interconnected pillars:

- Education: A key priority for UH2C is to provide high-quality education that equips students with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to become qualified, responsible and adaptable professionals. Through its educational activities, the university seeks to respond to evolving social and economic needs while preparing graduates to contribute actively to the development of their communities and the wider society.
- Research and Innovation: Through its laboratories, research centres and academic expertise, UH2C promotes the generation and dissemination of new knowledge, with particular attention to its scientific relevance and potential societal impact. By fostering innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, the university contributes to addressing contemporary challenges and strengthening the links between research, education and practical applications.
- Engagement with Society: By collaborating with public institutions, businesses, local authorities and civil society organisations, the university seeks to develop responses to social, economic and environmental challenges. Its commitment to civic engagement is reflected in its efforts to integrate sustainability, quality, transparency and participation into its institutional activities.
International cooperation represents a further strategic dimension of the university’s development. Hassan II University of Casablanca has strengthened its international research profile, ranking in the 901–1000 band of the 2026 Shanghai Ranking for the third consecutive year. Its involvement in international research initiatives, including Horizon Europe and PRIMA projects addressing renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and environmental challenges, further reflects its commitment to scientific innovation and international collaboration.
UH2C actively pursues partnerships with academic and research institutions worldwide, fostering student and staff mobility, the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and the development of collaborative research and educational initiatives.
As part of its commitment to internationalization, UH2C also participates in the Geminae network of the UNITA Alliance. This initiative strengthens international academic cooperation across continents through the exchange of best practices in teaching, research, mobility, and governance, contributing to institutional and academic development.
