The University is ranked among the top 10 universities in Latin America according to the 2024 global rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE) and is one of the highest-rated federal universities in Brazil according to the Ministry of Education (MEC).

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais is part of the Geminae network of the UNITA Alliance. The programme aims to strengthen international academic cooperation across all continents through the exchange of best practices in teaching, research, mobility, and governance, contributing to the development of more inclusive, sustainable, and globally connected higher education systems.
