Tourism in transition: rethinking heritage, borders and sustainable travel

The international conference “Changing tourism: comparing scenarios, challenges and opportunities”, held in Turin on 29 October 2026, marked the conclusion of the fifth edition of the Université d’été “Enhancement of Local Cultural Heritage for Responsible Tourism in a Cross-Border Area: From the Maritime Alps to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Langhe–Roero and Monferrato”. The initiative forms part of a programme of six schools on science diplomacy promoted by UniTo, each linked to one of UNITA’s six Research Hubs. Scholars discussed transformations, challenges and future perspectives in tourism, with particular attention to sustainability, border regions, cultural heritage and territorial regeneration. The conference proceedings will be published in print and as an open-access digital edition in December 2026.
