Organized on 11 February, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science , the initiative placed young students at the centre of a day dedicated to scientific exploration and female talent in STEM.
The event opened with institutional greetings by Professor Chiara Montomoli (DST-UniTO), Professor Cinzia Bertea (UNITA), and Eleonora D’Elicio and Francesca Iebole, representative of CUS Torino (University Sport Centre). Their addresses highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive scientific communities, strengthening international cooperation through the UNITA alliance, and promoting health and personal development.
The morning featured talks by researchers and professionals on mountains, extreme environments, sustainability, and women’s roles in STEM.
The discussion further explored key issues such as gender representation in STEM disciplines, career paths in scientific research, work–life balance, and the need for structural and cultural change to ensure equal opportunities.
Immediately after the on-site event, UNITA organized the Virtual Roundtable “Women and Girls in UNITA Science”, bringing together women scientists from different partner universities.
Together, the in-person event and the international roundtable offered students concrete role models and a broader European perspective on the ongoing commitment to advancing women’s participation and leadership in science.
