During the month of October 2021 the first three workshops of the UNITA R&I Hubs will be held in various UNITA universities. The workshops involve professors and researchers coming from the six universities of the UNITA Alliance (Universidade da Beira Interior - UBI Portugal, Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour - UPPA France, Université Savoie Mont Blanc – USMB France, Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara West - UVT Romania , Università degli Studi di Torino – UNITO Italy, Universidad de Zaragoza - UNIZAR Spain).

The Cultural Heritage Hub, gathering more than 60 UNITA researchers and staff, met in Turin on the 14th-15th October, with the aim of implementing common research projects related to vulnerable communities in marginalised areas, such as:

  • Landscape, visual arts, and built heritage
  • Science and technology for conservation
  • Identity and narratives
  • Inherited cultural practices and the future of fragile environments
  • Ancient sites and potentialities
  • Museum outreach

Common research projects on Renewable Energies and Circular Economy will be discussed during the Hub meetings taking place on the 27th- 28th of October in Covilhã and on the 28th-29th of October in Zaragoza.

The Hub meetings are, together with the cartography of UNITA research, the most important output of the first year of the project and show a promising landscape of common research themes connected to the development of UNITA rural and mountain territories.
